Excerpts from The BnT Fortnightly, July 27

HEADLINE:
New BnT Officers Installed Tonight

New faces as well as second-term officers comprise the slate of Butter N Toast Toastmasters Club’s Leadership for the term covering July 2006-2007.

After a successful term as VP for Membership, Sheila dela Cruz takes the gavel as President. As Chief Executive Officer of BnT TM, she will guide the officers and members towards the achievement of club goals.

Area 16 Governor and incoming BnT Vice President for Public Relations, Mar Sy will induct the new sets of officers tonight.

Immediate Past Area 16 Governor Benji Los Baños will also be present tonight to discharge last term’s officers who have led the club to Select Distinguished status on its first year as a Toastmasters club.

Editor’s Note: Immediate Past Area 16 Governor Benji Los Baños was not able to make it to the July 17 meeting. We were privileged to have DTM Butch Syyap grace the occasion. He discharged the previous term’s officers, and joined Mar Sy in inducting the new set.

HIGHLIGHTS:
BnT’s Own, Mar Sy, Takes the Helm in Area 16
BnT’s Immediate Past Treasurer and diligent collector of the “Language Crutch Fund,” Marlito Sy, takes on a bigger, more exciting role as Area 16 Governor.

As Area Governor, he will be leading 5 clubs, all in Metro Manila. He will encourage them to achieve their goals, track their development, and report their progress to Toastmasters International.

Mar, together with other Area Governors from Divisions A & B, was sworn in at the Meralco Little Theater last July 22.

Concurrently, Mar will also serve as BnT’s Vice President for Public Relations.
Mar believes that his two roles will complement each other and be mutually beneficial for the Area and our club. The responsibilities and challenges of his dual role will surely sharpen his leadership skills and enrich his Toastmasters experience.

BnT is proud to be represented by Mar Sy, and will give him its all-out support in these two important roles.

MILESTONE:
DCP Requirement: 4 Officers to Attend Training... Check!

Lt. Governor for Education Gina Mapua gave many compelling reasons to attend the July 22 Officers’ Training held at the Meralco Little Theater. Convinced of the merits, members and officers from the Metro Manila clubs A, B, G, H, & K gathered together to network, learn, and have fun. The whole day event was jam packed with learning activities.

BnT officers Mar Sy, Pat Pascua, Jazz Encarnacion, and Gege Sugue were there on training day, not just in partial fulfillment of the Distinguished Club Program requirements, but also to be oriented in their roles as officers so that they can serve and lead in the club’s accomplishment of its goals. They were also educated on the developments in the Toastmaster International’s award programs and on how to navigate the TI website for club and payment updates.

District Governor Allan Omilla capped the event with a message of encouragement and rallied the officers and members with the battle cry: “To rise to the challenge as one… One Club, One Area, One Division, One District!”

SPECIAL SEGMENT:
About The Distinguished Club Program

It’s not just about bragging rights and the glory. The purpose of the Distinguished Club Program is to focus on two critical areas: Educational Awards and Membership. These two are key factors in providing the club members an environment for developing public speaking and leadership skills.

Members and officers of BnT will be working together in a spirit of learning and fun to achieve the following goals:

2-4 Competent Communicator Awards
1-2 Advanced Communicator Awards
1-2 Leadership and Distinguished Toastmasters Awards
4-8 New Members
Minimum of 4 club officers trained during each of two training periods
1 Semi-annual membership report and 1 club officer list submitted on time.

One of the Visioning Workshop’s desired output is an Action Plan that would not just enable us to achieve this goal this term but also provide us with a vision that would make our club a consistent achiever through the next many years.
